Mandan, remains tied to railroad operation with a major rail equipment maintenance facility operated here by Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railway. The city has a large cattle market and food-processing plant. Other industries include iron and fabricated metal, wood, concrete and tile products in addition to oil refinery and coal-fired electrical power generation.
